If RED LIGHT CAMERAS were so effective (at reducing red light running), then why are they making so MUCH money? Think about it. If these automated enforcement cameras really worked, they would soon put themselves out of business. However, they are doing the opposite. The bigger problem? ONLY honest people have to pay the fines. The dishonest people simply fill out the sworn notarized affidavit swearing they were not the driver of the vehicle, identify some phony person as the driver along with a fictional address, and then get off scott-free. Something is terribly wrong with a system that rewards dishonesty and punishes instead those that are honest. Most Red Light Cameras in use in Georgia at present, DO NOT USE a flash, like all other designs deployed throughout the United States. The one known exception being certain cameras in the Savannah, Georgia area. They do NOT use a “flash” even at night. They have simply lit up the intersections bright enough that no flash is necessary. Therefore, the infamous photo blocking spray you may have heard about that works by overexposing the flash from the camera, does NOT work on these type cameras. We repeat, the infamous photo blocking spray does NOT work against “most” of the type of red light cameras being used in Georgia. There are numerous types of plastic license plate covers being sold on the net that claim they work against all cameras in use today. That simply is NOT true! They do not work against the type of cameras being used in Georgia. These plastic covers work by distorting your tag when viewed from an “angle” but look clear from straight on. The cameras currently being deployed by LaserCraft out of Norcross, Georgia, are typically mounted 96 feet back from the stop line, 10 feet over from the edge of the road, and 17.5 feet high. These three dimensional measurements do not provide for a significant enough angle that any of the plastic license plate covers can overcome. We know, we have tested them all. More importantly, they are also ILLEGAL! Since plastic license plate covers do not work anyway, why risk the possibility of a $1000.00 fine? SECTION 1. Any person who willfully covers any license plate with plastic, other material, or any part of his or her body in order to prevent or impede the ability of surveillance equipment to clearly photograph or otherwise obtain a clear image of the license plate is guilty of a misdemeanor and shall be punished by a fine not to exceed $1,000.00.
Note: The above photo was made using the exact same 3D camera angles as the LaserCraft cameras currently being deployed in Georgia today. 96 feet back, 10 feet over and 17.5 feet high. Bicycle racks appear to be quite effective in cloaking your tag. This method of blocking your tag from big brother's cameras also will not draw you any extra attention from local law enforcement, even though it technically is a violation of law itself. I have personally seen numerous police cars with bicycle racks obscuring their tags. It should be noted that 52 state senators voted for this piece of legislation along with most of the republican members of the state house that has now made bicycle racks illegal on the back of all motor vehicles, including cop cars! Ironically enough, at least to me, most house members voting against were democrats. It would appear that bicycle racks would be legal however since their obvious purpose is not “to prevent or impede the ability of surveillance equipment to clearly photograph or otherwise obtain a clear image of the license plate.” Their purpose of course is to carry bicycles. If they happen to block big brother's attempt to photograph your license plate #, oh well, too bad for big brother. These camera installations are unique in that they do not rely on sensors embedded in the road. Hence, when they were installed, it was not necessary to tear up the roads. Instead, they employ laser beams that shoot across the intersection that act as trip wires. If the light is red, and you break this invisible laser beam, the camera photographs your license plate and the kourt mails you a ticket. Georgia is different from all other 49 states in that Georgia cameras do NOT take a photo of the driver, but only your rear license plate. Georgia is also only one of a handful of states that do not require front license plates. In most other states, a picture of both front and rear plates and of the driver’s face is made also. In Georgia, the kourts only know two things. The # of the license plate, and to whom the car was registered to on the date of the alleged violation. The kourt cannot possibly know who was the driver of the vehicle, unless you tell them. In Georgia, the law legally assumes the registered owner of the vehicle was the driver, and as such, the registered owner of the vehicle is liable for the fine, even if the registered owner of the vehicle was NOT the driver. Neat huh? What many dishonest people have done is simply file the sworn notarized affidavit with the kourt that they were not the driver of the vehicle. The kourt then requires you to provide the driver's name and address. Many people just make that info up. The kourt then mails the ticket to the phony address you have provided, the ticket is later returned by the PO to the kourt because the address the dishonest person provided is invalid, who then files it in the trash back at the kourt and the dishonest person gets off scott-FREE! Once the dishonest (or honest) person files the phony (or legitimate) affidavit, their hands are washed of the matter. If the kourts cannot find the person identified on the affidavit, the kourt does not get to keep hassling that person. Be advised, that IS a criminal act of itself. It is called FALSE SWEARING, and is a misdemeanor punishable by up to a 1000-dollar fine and 1 year in jail. Just like a broken tag-light. Got a RED LIGHT CAMERA ticket in Georgia? Don’t pay yet.
